Over 160 schools nationally have chosen COSAMP as their RTO partner, delivering VET Music and Sound Production courses from the CUA Creative Arts & Culture Training Package at their school in 2023.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) enables students to receive workplace skills and knowledge through nationally-recognised qualifications from industry-developed training packages or accredited courses. VET in Schools programs allow students to mix general and vocational education, working towards achieving competencies as part of a full or partial VET qualification as they complete their secondary school studies.

The delivery of VET qualifications must be done through an RTO (Registered Training Organisation), and whilst many schools also hold registration as a RTO, most VET in Schools programs are undertaken in partnership with another provider as part of an third-party arrangement.

Since 2009 COSAMP has been designing partnerships specifically for secondary schools, combining all the necessary components of an RTO partnership with the provision of an extensive library of fully compliant assessment tools, as well as media-rich delivery resources and ongoing support throughout each year.

Our approach is defined by our commitment to support, and to continuously improving our teaching and learning resources to always ensure they remain relevant to current music industry trends and technology. Plus, with dynamic integrated platforms, step-by-step compliance systems and each partner school assigned their own School Partnership Consultant (SPC), we’ve taken the hard work out of managing and delivering your VET program(s).

VET programs at your School

If you’re looking to partner with COSAMP to deliver VET Music, here’s what you’ll need
  • An approved Certificate IV in Training and Assessment credential
  • Vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed. COSAMP does not require teachers to hold the qualification they deliver. Ask us about our Staff Matrix process
  • Current (music) industry skills relevant to the training and assessment being provided in the program
  • Current knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning that informs training and assessment
  • Access to the physical resources & equipment required for each unit. This could be a school recording setup, PA / performance system, classroom computer lab or music production software

Questions

How much does it cost to partner with COSAMP? Is there a per student fee?

As one of the ReadCloudVET group of RTOs, COSAMP’s fees include an Auspice Fee (incorporating the first qualification) and Extra Qualification Fees for each subsequent qualification. In addition, there is a Student Resource Fee charged ‘per-student’ (per year). There may also be benefits to delivering programs across multiple RTOs in the ReadCloudVET group. What equipment does my school need in order to run VET Music?

The physical resources and equipment required will be largely dependent on the individual units and inherent focus (or ‘specialisation’) in the program. Broadly, Performance based Music programs usually require access to rehearsal/performance spaces, live sound (PA) equipment and instruments/amps, whereas Sound Production based programs require simulated recording studio spaces with music production equipment and software. Does VET contribute to students’ senior secondary certificate or ATAR?

The Curriculum, Assessment and Certification Authority in each state or territory recognises VET in the context of its own education framework. Students can undertake VET as part of a Senior Secondary Certificate with its completion providing credit towards both a recognised VET qualification and a senior secondary school certificate within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Which units do you offer? How flexible can we be with unit selection?

With the exception of VCE VET programs in Victoria, where the 2nd year (Units 3&4) units are prescribed, COSAMP always aims to provide as much flexibility as possible to schools wanting to establish a VET program. Our aim is to assist in creating unique unit selections and, in turn, programs that fit each school’s needs, cohort, equipment and circumstances. Click through to view our Course Guide.

How is VET Music different from ‘traditional’ Music?

VET Music provides a complementary skillset to ‘traditional’ theory and performance studies, preparing students for work and life as a musician/producer in the contemporary music industry. It’s a practical, skills-based learning approach that reflects the ongoing evolution of trends and technologies, employer expectations and real working conditions in a range of music and sound production professions in the industry.
